Prepare for an adventure of limitless possibilities as you build, mine, battle mobs, and explore the ever-changing Minecraft landscape.

Minecraft is a 3D game of sandbox that Markus "Notch" Persson created. It is maintained at Mojang Studios (a part Xbox Game Studios), which is itself part of Microsoft.

From its creation, Minecraft was developed almost exclusively by Notch until Jens "Jeb" Bergensten started working with him and has since become head of its development. It features music from Daniel "C418", Kumi Tamioka, and Lena Raine, as well as paintings and illustrations by Kristoffer Zetterstrand. Initially released as what is now known as Minecraft Classic on May 17, 2009, the game was fully released on November 18, 2011. Minecraft has been released on both mobile devices as well as consoles since its release. On November 6, 2014, Minecraft and all of Mojang Studios' assets were acquired by Microsoft for US$2.5 billion. [6][7] Notch left Mojang and no longer works on Minecraft.

Minecraft focuses on allowing the player to explore, interact with and modify a dynamically-generated map made of one-cubic-meter-sized blocks. The environment also features items, mobs, plants and other creatures. You can build, mine for ore, fight hostile mobs, and create new blocks and tools from the various resources in the game. Game Blog The game's open-ended model allows players to create structures, creations and artwork on various competitive or collaborative multiplayer servers or their single-player maps. Other features include redstone circuits for logic computations and remote actions, minecarts and tracks, and a mysterious underworld called the Nether. A designated but completely optional goal of the game is to travel to a dimension called the End and defeat the Ender dragon.

A new Minecraft world.

Steve is one of two default characters that are used as players.

The user's player is the person who controls the world. The user begins a game by creating a world. It is generated randomly or with a specified seed. A chest containing basic items will be generated near the player if the bonus chest option has been enabled. The player has 10 hearts of health and can be injured by falling, suffocation or drowning, fire lava, lightning and sweet berry bushes, cacti and cacti. You can reduce damage to your health by using armor or resistance potion. Food and specific potions can also be used to restore your health. When the difficulty is set as Peaceful, health will automatically regenerate. Hunger is also a factor if the difficulty is not set to Peaceful, depleting over time and even faster while sprinting, jumping or swimming. Food replenishes hunger levels, but rotten flesh, raw chicken and other foods can have a tendency to cause hunger. Depending on the difficulty level, starvation depletes a player's health and may even kill the player.

A player can modify their skin via Minecraft.net's profile page, the Minecraft Launcher in Java Edition, and the pause or main menus for Bedrock Edition.

A building that was inspired by a Greek acropolis.

The world of Minecraft takes place within a three-dimensional grid of cubes, with each cube being occupied by a certain type of block, not all of which are necessarily cubic. There are many types of blocks, including natural blocks like grass, stone and minerals that randomly generate within the world. There are also blocks that can be crafted by players, such as a furnace and crafting table. You can extract resources from blocks either by hand or with tools. Some of these resources are simply blocks in the player's inventory that can be placed elsewhere, while others are used as material to create other blocks or tools. Some are not practical. Some blocks are not breakable by normal survival methods, e.g. End portal frames, command block, nether and end portals blocks, barriers and air.

Mining

You can mine various ores in close proximity to lava using a pickaxe.

Mining is a key aspect of Minecraft. It is used to mine ore and other resources primarily from below the surface. These ores include iron, coal, iron, redstone and diamond. Mining can be done either from the surface, or down through a mine shaft. Mineshafts and ravines are places that can be used to find resources. They are often rich in ores.

Crafting and smelting

A crafting table is used to create most of the blocks and items in Minecraft.

Crafting allows players create new tools and block using items from their inventory. Many subsequent versions contain crafting recipes that allow you to create new blocks or items. To craft, a player can either use the 2x2 grid found in their inventory or the 3x3 grid provided to them by a crafting table. A furnace is necessary to melt iron.

Brewing and enchanting

An Enchantment Table that contains glyphs is being absorbed into.

Brewing creates potions from various ingredients and water using a brewing stand. They can be stored in a bottle and then consumed by the players. Enchanting is also used to upgrade armor, tools or weapons with an enchanting table or anvil. More powerful enchantments can be accessed by gaining experience and placing bookshelves around the enchanting table.

A creeper in a forest. Creepers follow the player and explode when they get close.

Mobs, short for "mobiles", are the animals and other creatures found on the map. Hostile mobs attack the player while passive mobs do not. However, neutral mobs attack players when provoked (not every neutral mob is provoked in the same manner).

Many passive mobs can be found in the Overworld and may be killed or bred together.

Pigs can be ridden by a saddle, holding a carrot on the stick and dropping raw porkchops upon their death. Cows can be milked with a bucket and can drop raw beef upon their death. Sheep may be killed by raw mutton or 1 wool and can be sheared for 1-3 more wools. Chickens can lay eggs by letting go of raw chicken feathers and raw chicken after their deaths. Horses can ride a saddle or drop leather after death. They travel faster than the pigs and can also be used to ride a saddle. Rabbits: Drop rabbit meat, hide, or its foot to make a brewing product. Bats: Fly around caves with ambient mobs. Fish: Passive ambient mobs drop a variety of items, including food and bones. Mobs that drop food drop the raw version of their food unless killed while on fire.

Common hostile mobs found throughout the Overworld include:

Zombies can be attacked by melee damage. Skeletons have infinitely many arrows and a bow. Spiders can leap long distances and climb walls. Witches: use potions. Creepers can explode when they're near the player. Endermen: are tall and black creatures with purple eyes which turn aggressive when the player looks at them. Some mobs in the Overworld are rarer and spawn only occasionally or in certain biomes, places, or times.

Spider jockeys: a skeleton riding a spider.

Chicken jockeys are a baby zombie riding on a chicken. Slimes: They spawn in the swamplands and deep within the map. Villagers can trade with the player and live in villages. Cats can be tamed, and they can live in villages and swamp huts. Parrots are able to imitate the sounds made by nearby mobs. Wolves are able to be controlled by the players and attack enemy mobs, if the player engages in an attack by them. Llamas are able to store items and build caravans. Mooshrooms are mushroom-covered cows that spawn within mushroom fields biomes. Vindicators: spawn in woodland mansions. Pillagers: spawn at pillager outposts. Evokers spawn in Woodland Mansions. Phantoms: spawn in the event that the player hasn’t slept within three days. Pandas: spawn in jungles. They are more common among bamboo jungles.

Some are found only in the Nether.

Ghasts are flying ghosts that fire exploding fireballs at players. Zombified piglins: wield golden swords and attack in hordes if provoked. Piglins have the ability to barter for blocks or ingredients. Wither skeletons, tall skeletons with stone swords and dropping coal. Sometimes wither skeleton skulls can also be used to summon an additional boss, the wither. Blazes: Fireballs can be fired at players and they hover above the ground. Magma cubes can do more damage than Overworld slimes and are similar to them. Striders: These are the only passive mobs that naturally spawn in the Nether. They can walk on lava or be ridden by a warped mushroom on a stick. The End contains the Ender Dragon, which is the main boss mob in Minecraft and allows the player to exit back to the Overworld when it dies.

Withers are the second boss mob in Minecraft and are created by the player by placing wither skeleton skulls on top of soul sand or soul soil in a specific pattern. They can shoot wither skulls at nearby undead mobs while also causing the Wither Effect in any mob they hit.

The Nether

The Nether.

The Nether is a dimension in Minecraft accessible from the Overworld by a nether portal. It consists of five unique biomes, which are the nether wastes, the basalt deltas, the crimson and warped forests and the soul sand valleys. Each biome is unique in its generation and terrain. It is populated by zombified piglins, blazes, ghasts, wither skeletons, magma cubes, piglins and hoglins. The nether also contains nether quartz, nether silver and ancient debris. The Nether also contains large oceans of volcanic lava, which have been walked on by striders.

The End

The End.

The End is another dimension where the player must defeat the ender dragon. The End can be accessed by entering an End portal located in a stronghold. Endstone is the End's main material and is inhabited only by endermen. Servers It also contains tall obsidian towers, on top of them are end crystals that can heal the ender dragon. Once the ender dragon is slain, the exit portal is created in the center of the map and an end gateway portal is created near an edge of the map, which transports the player to the expansive outer end islands which are full of chorus fruit forests and end cities filled of chest loot and shulkers. The end gateway portal is only accessed by throwing an Ender Pearl, using elytra or trapdoors to enter the portal. The end has no ores.

Multiplayer (Java)

PvP (player against player) on a multiplayer server.

Minecraft multiplayer servers have developed to include their own rules and customs, guided by their administrators and moderators. The term griefer, meaning a player who causes grief, is a typical term on the internet but has taken up its definition on Minecraft servers: a person who destroys or defiles other users' creations on servers.

Griefers are the reason many server administrators make rules, but this has been taken a step further with modifications to the Minecraft server and even plugin-based replacement servers such as Bukkit. Because of these plugin-based servers, new user-created features have shown up in Minecraft. These include features such as money, vehicles, protection, RPG element, and many more. These features don't usually require modification of a user’s client and can easily be accessed through chat commands. To bring up the chat screen, press T.

Spleef, a play on "grief", is a popular multiplayer game. It's a game in which the player aims for another player to fall through the floor by destroying blocks under their feet. This game is usually played in a designated area. Server plugins are used to automate the process.

Many popular multiplayer servers exist that may contain, PvP arenas, custom minigames or large Survival or Creative worlds.

Multiplayer (Bedrock).

Multiplayer in Bedrock Edition differs from multiplayer on the Java edition in that it is centered around a friend system. A player can add friends by clicking the Friends tab on the menu or from the pause screen of a game. A player may invite friends to a world instead of having to pay for a server or realm. Minecraft has featured servers on Bedrock, which means that they are available when opening the game. There are seven featured servers: The Hive, CubeCraft, Mineplex, Lifeboat, Mineville, Galaxite, and Pixel Paradise.

Minecraft Realms

Minecraft Realms is an official subscription-based server hosting service that allows players to create and manage their own private Minecraft multiplayer worlds. Realms, hosted by Mojang Studios allows for a fast and easy way to create servers. The owner can also manage them from within Minecraft without needing to be familiar with the concepts of hosting on the Internet. Realms can be used to host large public servers but are best for small groups of friends and family. Private Realms server are easy to set-up and are available 24/7 so long as the owner has paid for it.

There are a number of other versions of Minecraft.

Minecraft 4k is a simple version of Minecraft in the style of other "4k" Java games (everything is packaged in 4 kibibytes) that Notch has entered in contests. Minecraft: Pi Edition was a free ported version of the 0.5.0 version of Pocket Edition for the Raspberry Pi,[17] which was intended as an educational tool for novice programmers. It allowed users access to the game code and supported multiple languages. However, it was withdrawn in January 2016. Minecraft: China Edition is a China version of Minecraft only in China.

Game customization

Add-ons

Mojang Studios/Minecraft officially supports add-ons [Bedrock Edition only] as the first step towards customizing all editions. They are currently able to change the look of the worlds, alter the behavior of mobs, add entities, items, blocks, structures and functions, as well as biomes.

Behavior packs

Behavior packs [Bedrock Edition only] alter the behavior of vanilla fogs and mobs. They are still under development and will soon be able modify the behavior of items and blocks [citation needed].

Officially, the game allows you to change most of its textures, sounds and texts using resource packs. Resource packs must contain a certain structure of files and folders placed in the .minecraft/resourcepacks folder. Installed resource packs, as well as the folder in which resource packs are placed, can be accessed in the options menu. The number and size of the files within the resource pack determines how often the resources are altered.

Data packs

Data packs [Java Edition only] are a way for vanilla worlds to be further customized in a similar fashion to resource packs. Unlike resource packs, which modify the game's resources, data packs can be used to override or add new advancements, functions, loot tables, structures, recipes and tags without any code modification.

Skins

Skin is the texture applied to a player's model or mob. The skin is divided into areas that represent the character's surface area (e.g., the left leg area, front head, etc.). A skin can only allow solid color. Transparency is prohibited on the skin file unless on the second layer. Playing offline, pixels may be left free, creating "holes" within the skin. The second layer can be used to give the character glasses, hats, or other accessories. The arm size can be changed to make it normal or slim. The slim variant measures 3 pixels in width, while the normal variant measures 4 pixels.

Java Edition

in Java Edition, there are no special features in the skins. This version has only the features listed in the first part of this section.

Bedrock Edition

There are many options for skin customization in Bedrock Edition. Players can add 3D hair, eyes, lips, arms, legs, and other customizations. You can also alter the size of your character. Players can also get many different accessories for the skin. This can only be done with an in-game skin. Accessories and skins can be purchased by players. A skin that is smaller than usual or larger will not affect the hitbox size. However it can still be an advantage in multiplayer servers, as it may be harder to see. Some skins hide their armor and hand-held items.

Capes

Capes are an uncommon vanity item that can be equipped on a player's back. in Bedrock Edition, players start with a cape that is not equipped by default and some skins come with capes.

Capes also flail around when the player runs. The texture of the capes changes when the player equips them with elytra.

Unofficial mods

Minecraft can be modified by replacing or adding Java class files to minecraft.jar in Java Edition. Mojang does not support this method of custom modifications. It can cause the game to break if the mod is out of date, incompatible, or conflicting with another mod. These modifications impressed Notch and Jeb enough that they were added to Mojang's game. The authors were also credited under Additional Programming. Mods were implemented into the main game by Hippoplatimus' Piston Mod, and Dr. Zhark’s horses mod. These mods were added in Beta 1.1.7 and 1.6.1 respectively.

Third-party software

There are many programs for Minecraft. These include 3D maps editors and viewers, game mods, game modifiers, and other informational programs (such a crafting recipes, server wrappers, or other specialty programs). As with mods, these too are not supported by Mojang.

Henry survives, however, and the explosion gave the entrance that Henry needed. Chapter 5: Completing the Mission includes multiple references to Minecraft. - If the player launches with the "Government Supported Private Investigator" and "Convict Allies" ending, and then selects the "jetpack" option, the player can select the "build" option, in which Henry begins building a bridge out of dirt blocks from the building he is standing on to the Toppat rocket. Henry, however, runs out of dirt blocks, falls off the edge and drops a stick, steak, and leather boots. The fail message says "You died!" ", similar to the Minecraft death screen. - If the player launches with the "Pure Blooded Thief" and "Presumed Dead" ending, and then selects the "Stop" option, then does nothing, then selects the "Spiked Wheels" and "Hammer (Left)" options, Henry attempting to "mine" glass in a similar manner to Minecraft, but he is shot down. Henry's rocket is unable to carry enough fuel and will crash to the ground. This could be related to the Minecraft achievement. - The player can launch with the "Government Supported Private Investigative" and the "Ghost Inmate", and then choose the "Magic Hat and "Free Transform" options. A diamond block can be found near the painting, while a helmet can be found somewhere.
