Ainars Slesers has been nominated as Latvias premier minister

Ainars The officially-endorsed candidate for the political organization For A Good Latvia for prime minister, stated during the meeting today that he would defend the national interest in negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and international lenders and ensure that more Latvian products, services, and goods are exported to Germany, Russia, Scandinavia, Ukraine, and Belarus.

LETA writes that Slesers believes Latvian exporters will be able to profit from opportunities in Uzbekistan as well as China.

Slesers hopes that For A Good Latvia will be highly successful in the upcoming 10th Saeima elections and will be the one to make the final decision on the composition of the new government. Only such persons who have "a strong backbone" and who are willing to defend the national interest of Latvia are likely to be appointed portfolios in the next government, he stated.

The new foreign minister and all ambassadors from Latvia abroad will have to devote 80percent of their time in support of Latvian businessmen's interests abroad according to Slesers.

Slesers stressed the necessity of having a goal as a primary means of achieving it.
