Work- Life Integration is an outcome of people exercising control and choice in their life to satisfy life's challenges. This can be in terms of managing work responsibilities alongside their personal and family needs. The areas of an individual's life that require integration will change based on someone's life stages - it's very dynamic.

The problem is what we're focussing on - balancing work with life. The two are not separate things. There is only 1 thing - your lifetime. Everything else is a tag for an activity you are doing within your life. So what is going wrong is that we're focussing on the wrong things - equilibrium, and seeing work as different to our life. This focus is leading to sacrificing what we value our perfect life.




Step one involved a clear definition of exactly what work/life balance meant to Mary. Did it mean that a real 50/50 balance between both regular? And so are they completely separate things or do they overlap? Once we tackled those fundamental questions, Mary found that she wanted to attain a balance of achievement and happiness.

We didn't spend plenty of money as we were under a budget, and it was a culmination of small things that snowballed into this one giant to-do list that we were really glad to be rid off. But I now still hire those cleaners to help with the house chores after in a few weeks, and I am the better for it. I felt good because it allowed me to free up my time to pursue the things I need (and need) to do, and not worry about having the weekend roll around because it meant I had to clean the house. I can concentrate on teaching more. I sketched more. I brainstormed more projects, took on more freelance job and got more money. All this from hiring some help.

If it's the first choice, keep focussing on work life equilibrium. If it's the second option, then kick focussing on work life balance into touch. Rather, make a decision right now that you are going to build the lifetime your really want for yourself and your family.

Mid age employees may want to practice some of their hobbies which they couldn't do in earlier years. - Theatre and music classes for some colleagues.

The reduction of your presence will be felt among your loved ones and friends when you start putting in a lot of hours at work. You could miss important events or family milestones. This will leave you feeling left out and could harm the relationships you have outside of work.

Whether you've got a fixed or a flexible work schedule, being proactive in scheduling downtime is important in having a balanced life. Additionally, it helps in making sure the fun actually happens.
